If non-African, how do you promote Africans in international arbitration/ADR?
I am Partner at Stewarts and an arbitration specialist that has represented individuals, corporates and government bodies in disputes around the world. My principal focus is on disputes connected with the African continent, particularly those arising out of the oil & gas and technology sectors. My recent work has included matters connected with Cameroon, Nigeria, Egypt, Botswana, Ghana, Central African Republic and the Ivory Coast. Client work aside, I also am a proud supporter of promoting arbitration within Africa. I have partnered with African lawyers and firms to develop bespoke training and know-how on arbitration best practice. I have acted as a mentor to African arbitration practitioners looking to develop their practices. And I have contributed to cross-border initiatives seeking to increase levels of African participation within the arbitration process.

Biography
Dan is a Partner in the International Arbitration team at Stewarts. He leads the team’s Africa focus and is a specialist in disputes from the Continent. He has a particular expertise in the oil & gas and IT sectors, but his experience covers a wide variety of markets and geographies. Dan has advised governments, state-owned entities, multinational and domestic corporates and investors. Fluent in English and French, his experience includes mandates involving Nigeria, Cameroon, Egypt, Botswana, Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire. Before Stewarts, the UK’s largest disputes-only firm, Dan practiced at White & Case and Pinsent Masons.
