CRCICA's activities from Third Quarter 2020 until Mid-February 2021 25 February 2021 CRCICA is proud to continue showing high levels of excellence under the leadership of its devoted Director Dr. Ismail Selim. In November 2020, CRCICA’s Board of Trustees unanimously voted on the renewal of Dr. Ismail Selim’s mandate as Director of CRCICA for a second 4-year term ends in 2024. It is worth saying that, Dr. Selim is a founding member of the AfAA Board of Directors and a frequent speaker and panelist in distinguishes African events. CRCICA Caseload On 15 February 2021, the total number of cases filed before the Cairo Regional Centre for International Commercial Arbitration (“CRCICA”) reached 1467 cases, with 25 new cases filed since 1 December 2020. The cases related to various sectors, including Construction, Tourism & Hospitality, Oil & Gas, Corporate Restructuring, Telecommunications, Media & Entertainment, Civil Aviation, Real Estate Development and Public Procurement. Parties involved in these cases came from Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, the UK and the UAE. The language of the proceedings was Arabic in 22 cases, while English was the language of the proceedings for 3 cases. Arbitrators appointed during this period hailed from Cameroon, Canada, Egypt, France and Lebanon. Since 1 December 2020, CRCICA has hosted 19 hearings. Of these 19 hearings, 4 hearings were held with partial in-person attendance and remote attendance, 5 hearings were held via videoconference and the rest of the hearings were held in-person (while respecting the Centre’s social distancing measures). Featured Member of the week On 15 February 2021, CRCICA was selected Featured Member of the Week by the African Arbitration Association. Awards and Recognitions In February 2021, CRCICA’s Director Dr. Ismail Selim was selected by the Africa Arbitration Academy among Africa’s 30 Arbitration Power list 2020. |
