Organisation Profile
The Cairo Regional Centre for International Commercial Arbitration (CRCICA) is an independent non-profit international organization established in 1979 under the auspices of the Asian African Legal Consultative Organization (“AALCO”), in pursuance of AALCO’s decision taken at the Doha Session in 1978 to establish regional centres for international commercial arbitration in Asia and Africa.

In 1979, an agreement was concluded between AALCO and the Egyptian Government for the establishment of CRCICA for an experimental period of three years. Pursuant to subsequent agreements concluded between AALCO and the Egyptian Government in 1983, 1986 and 1989, CRCICA continued to function for two additional similar periods, after which it was granted permanent status. Since its establishment, the CRCICA has administered more than 1650 arbitration cases (domestic and international).
In 2023, the CRCICA amended its Arbitration Rules to meet the needs of users and evolving dispute resolution. The New Rules are set to introduce for the first time provisions on the consolidation of arbitrations, early dismissal of claims, Emergency Arbitrator rules, Expedited Arbitration rules, online arbitration filing, multiple contracts, third party funding, and enhancing the use of technology in CRCICA arbitration. The New Rules will enter into force in 2023. The CRCICA issued its Dispute Boards Rules in August 2021.
